Board game nights are always a great way to sit & connect with your family while chatting and having fun. I was recently sent one of the newest board games in the Lucky Duck catalogue to try out with my family. The game is called Oros, it is a one to four player game that is played over the course of one to two hours. It is recommended for ages 14+ & can be purchased for $50. In this game you & your competitors will play as Demigods, racing to build mountains on which you can build temples that allow you to gain knowledge which in turn gets turned into points to win the game.
You will need your best strategy moves in order to win this game. This game is all about moving around land tiles in order to create bigger land masses, volcanos and mountains in which you'll build sacred sites to gain knowledge. The initial set up is quite simple, and the rules may seem slightly confusing at first, but it will get better as you play through the game. There are four different demigods to select as a player & each one represents a different element - fire, water, land or air.
As mentioned above there was a lot to absorb on your first time playing, My brain was a little confused but once I actually looked at the board some more and thought about the rules then it all clicked and I was able to explain it to everyone else as well. If you do need a little extra help there is a how to video on the Oros home page on the Lucky Duck website. When you get the hang of it, the game starts to pick up pace and is actually a lot of fun. It can get pretty intense when there are a lot of volcanos all over, and the player before you has the chance to swipe a movement out from under you. However that may play into your benefit, as more than one person can build on a mountain - in fact there are different points levels for each layer that is built on it.
I really enjoy all of the game pieces, some of them are wood and others are a sturdy cardboard. The game can also be played solo which is nice when no one else wants to play a game. If this sounds like a game that would interest you, I highly suggest checking it out along with the other games in their collection.
