Magic Weighted Blanket Review + Giveaway!

It isn't a big secret that a large majority of people have some form of anxiety, but thankfully there are a ton of things you can do to help relieve a little of that stress. Today I am just going to be covering one of the things that can help. A weighted blanket can be a big help for a range of issues, it is meant to feel as though you are being hugged while it is on your lap or pulled up over your body, helping calm your body and mind.

I recently received a weighted blanket for a company called Magic Weighted Blanket to try out for a review, and I love it. My son also loves it and usually steals it to use when we are all relaxing on the couch watching shows together. Magic Weighted Blanket sells blankets for both children and adults (it is not recommended for children under the age of two), they sell different weights based on how tall you are and for children it is suggested you get a blanket that is about 10% of what they weigh. These blankets are handmade in the USA,  All of the blankets have the weight evenly distributed throughout the blanket to cover your body.

The weight inside of the blanket is designed to give you a deep pressure stimulation which helps your body produce a chemical called Oxytocin that helps reduce symptoms from depression, anxiety, autism and some physical pain. The weight of the blanket is just enough that you can feel like your body is receiving a gentle hug without feeling like you are being smothered. Sometimes I like having it just sitting across my lap, it almost feels like you have a cat or small dog sitting in your lap. With the weight being just right I think this might be helpful for people with restless leg syndrome.

This is my first time trying out a weighted blanket so I went off of their size recommendation and went with the 16lb Chenille blanket in the color Navy. The pellets they use are made from BPA-free, non-toxic, hypo-allergenic polypropylene. The blanket I received retails for $220, you might be thinking that is a lot, but this blanket feels quite durable and it comes with a life time guarantee and it is washable. Plus if you aren't happy with it within the first thirty days you can send it back for a refund.

I am 5'4" and this blanket is the perfect length for me, I can have it covered my feet all the way up to my shoulders with a little extra room. It is still summer here where I am and the blanket I selected is fuzzy, when completely covered it can get slightly warm under it so I like to poke my feet out which gives me the temperature range I want. As mentioned above my son also loves using the blanket and often ends up falling asleep on the sofa shortly before bedtime cuddled under this blanket.

As soon as you pull the blanket on, you can feel the instant comfort and relief it offers. It is nice to use when you are just laying around watching TV, taking a nap or while you are sleeping. Fair warning though using it while watching TV may cause you to take a nap even if you aren't planning on it with how comfy it will help you become. If your blanket gets a bit dirty it is completely machine washable and comes with care instructions to keep your blanket looking like new.

Prize Alert:  One winner is going to win a weighted blanket of their choice. You pick the size, and pattern.

Disney Villainous Board Game Review!

We are a board game loving family and we also love Disney so Villainous the board game from Ravensburge fits in perfectly to our board game collection. We play board games several times through out the week and enjoy pulling out this Disney based game on Saturday nights when we have our "Disney Night" where we watch two Disney movies and make Disney inspired/shaped foods.

The Villainous game has two larger base games and several expansions, today I will be sharing the original base version of the game. It retails for $35-$40 however you can keep an eye out for sales on the game to get it for a cheaper price. The game comes with six different characters to play as - The Queen of Hearts, Prince John, Captain Hook, Jafar, Ursala and Maleficent. The game is recommended for ages 10+ however my eight year old is able to play this game without any issues.

Each character has it's own goals to complete in order to win the game, you'll have your own set of playing cards and destiny cards which are specifically made for your villian that matches their realm. To win the game, you'll need to finish your villians goal and sabotage others along the way to prevent them from winning first, after all what kind of villian would you be if you helped out instead? Every character also has it's own home board known as your realm, and playing piece that is as unique as the character itself.

Depending on lady luck and how evil you feel like being the game came last anywhere from ten to fifty minutes and anything is possible you could play the same villian several times, but only win once or you could win every time once you get a hang of the character. Setting up the game is quite easy, you'll separate the playing cards from the destiny cards, placing one pile on either side of the playing board. The gray dish that comes with it is placed in the center of the table and a pile of chips is added, these help you pay to use the cards to complete your quests and can be picked up along the way.

Every round you'll complete a number of actions which range from two to five depending on the space on your board you place your character. The actions can include; collection tokens, playing a card, beating a hero and more. In order to sabotage another player you'll need to place yourself on a section that has the Destiny symbol so that you can draw two cards from their destiny picking which to play into their realm, it could put heroes in their path trying to stop them, it count take tokens away from their stash and more to prevent them from winning. The first person to successfully sabotage the other players while playing all the right cards of their own to complete their goal wins.

You'll find that some of the villans are easier than others, some almost seem destined to win due to easier goals and cards so we enjoy switching up which characters we each play so we all have a chance to win. The game is a lot of fun and great for families who enjoy game nights together, pretty soon I will cover some of the expansions we own.

*This was not a sponsored post, We love playing board games and I wanted to share some of our favorites with my readers who may be looking for board games for their own families. Check out my other board game reviews and look for more coming soon.

August/September Creepy Crate!

The newest Creepy Crate has arrived and it is a throwback to the 90's. Creepy Crate is a Bi-Monthly Horror and True Crime themed subscription box. You can purchase a three box subscription for $120 or a Six box Subscription for $240. If you prefer to receive one box at a time they can be purchased for $40. The average retail value for each box they put together is $90, every box comes with a guarantee of getting one book plus 4-5 other goodies with it. The goodies you receive can range from clothing to household goods and more so you'll always be in for a surprise. The last few boxes I received had a collectable pin included so I was a little bummed there wasn't one in this months box. Ready to slash up what was in the newest box?

The book included this time is by Charles Watcher and it is called "The Twin Paradox". The description of this book sounds interesting and reminds me slightly of a movie I watched on Netflix. The book is about a spot along the coast of Texas where time is acting in an odd way. Instead of moving along as it should ten years passes by every three minutes and it is up to a group of misfit teens to fix the problem.

Also included is a E-copy of the book Almost Dark by Letita Trent.

Troll 2 Visor. I have never personally seen this movie but they describe it as one of the worst and funniest horror movies made which makes me want to watch it because I love campy horror movies that are fun to laugh along with. I don't wear hats or visors, but I have a friend who loves horror movies too so I will be passing this onto them.

The new version of Candyman film may be out in theatres, but this box wants to remind you of the original that came out in 1992 with a T-shirt. The T-shirt is pretty soft, and is made from a comfortable material which is always nice when a company doesn't pick out the cheap materials that are uncomfortable and stiff to wear.

This coffee mug made me laugh, Dad jokes are always fantastic and I feel like this is a joke that a dad would make. The mug says "All messages will be returned in 7 days" which is a great cup for the office while paying homage to Ringu.

"Kick him to hell" Hacky Sack with the face of Jeffery Dahmer. I remember when kids would kick hacky sacks around when I was in grade school, it looked like fun however I was never coordinated enough to kick it around myself. Maybe now I can practice my skills?

The next Creepy Crate box I believer is the October/November crate which I am excited to see if they do anything extra for Halloween. During October my husband and I watch a horror movie each night leading up to Halloween so my cup for this box will be joining me on the nights when I feel like making some hot cocoa.

What is your favorite horror or movie based of a true crime?

Pokka Pens - Smooth, All weather pens for travel. + Giveaway!

I like keeping a pen in my purse for when I need one, but it is always a bummer of they end up coming open or breaking which can end up getting marks or ink on the inside of your bag. I wanted to find something that was more durable, easy to store, and writes nicely. I came across a brand called Pokka Pens that creates pens that are durable and fun to use.

Pokka Pens are made to be a durable, all weather pen that is light weight and compact for travel. We enjoy camping and going on trips, so I will be putting one of these in our bug out bag that we take on trips with us. They are compact enough they can be carried around in your pocket or added to your keychain. Pokka Pens start out at $4.95 and go up to $15.95 depending on the design and color selected, they also sell refill ink 3 for $2.95.

The pens are created so that the top half of the pen stores inside of the bottom half. Before using it you will need to "pop" the top out of the bottom, flip it around and then snuggly click it into the bottom, giving you a full pen. You could also just use the bottom half as a cap and write with just the top portion if you want, I have been doing that with my Krytek Pontus (pen on the far right of the image above) so that I can keep the keychain attachment on it. Getting the separate halves apart does take a small amount of force, enough that the pen won't come open in your pen or pocket, but not enough that the pen is hard to open. If you buy more than one pen you can mix and match the tops/bottoms to create your own unique pen.

So we know that it is easy to carry around with you and it is durable, but how does it write? After all that is the main purpose of why you purchase a pen. I usually write pretty small, so I like pens that write smoothly without bleeding into the paper or smudging if it gets touched too soon. I enjoy how these write, the pen flows smoothly and the ink comes out bold without bleeding. It also dries quickly so it won't smudge if your hand happens to run over it.

The pens are made to also be used when they are wet, if it is raining you might be wondering how you are supposed to write on wet paper? Pokka also sells water proof notebooks that go along with their pens which is perfect for hikers, campers and those who enjoy traveling outdoors. You could even write notes in the shower, if you are a person who does a lot of thinking in the shower.

Prize Alert:  One winner is going to win a pen of their choice from the Pokka site. (Any pen that is in stock)
