Jax's Monster Snack Mix!

A great snack idea to have on hand whether you are at home or on the go is trail mix. There are tons of different trail mixtures so it is easy to find one you love, and there are always new mixes popping up to try. We recently received a box of original Monster Snack Mix from a company called Jax's to try out. This trail mix is natural, gluten-free and peanut-free, it's a mix of simple ingredients makes for a healthy, delicious snack.

The snack mix has a combination of chocolate covered sunflower seeds, sesame sticks, coconut chips along with a dried fruit mixture of pineapple, mango & papaya. Through their website you can buy three boxes which comes with a total of fifteen individual packages for $15 which means they are just $1 per packet. Each packet has 1oz of Monster mix in it, which might not seem like a lot, however it is just the right amount of snackage. The amount in the bowl shown in the image above/below came from one singular packet.

I am not a big fan of coconut chips so I picked those out of mine, but I really loved the rest of the mixture. My son was on the same page, he'd love a mix that didn't have the coconut chips but still had everything else. We all enjoy the sesame sticks & were happy to see them included. The Monster mix is filling & helps satisfy your sweet tooth. So if you are looking for a healthy snack, check this brand out! I also included one of the packets in this months Beauty & The Book giveaway so the winner can try it out as well.

Pink Panda a healthier gummy candy alternative!

I've always been a fan of gummy candies, I know that not everyone is a big fan of gummies & they prefer something else but I wanted to share a brand with you called Pink Panda. Pink Panda was founded by a guy named Noah who loves gummy candy, but he wanted something that would fit in with the healthier lifestyle he was trying to lead. Thus he began his search & ultimately ended up making Pink Panda which is a plant based candy that has 1/2 the typical number of calories gummy candies have and it has 95% less sugar without missing any delicious flavors.

I recently received two bags of all three flavors they offer to try out with my family. I received Astro Blaters which are sweet & chewy, Peachy Hearts that are sweet & chewy plus the Treasure Chews that are sweet & chewy. Each bag is one serving size, there are only 2 grams of sugar per bag & 90 calories! Each gummy is about the size of my thumb nail which is a good snack size.

Astro Chews - I love the fun shapes in this bag, all of the gummies are shaped like stars, moons, etc. The flavors included in this mixture are Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Lemon, Green Apple and Orange.

Peachy Hearts - These are of course shaped like hearts! One of my favorite road trip candies growing up has always been peach rings, so I was excited to try these out as part of the review.

Treasure Chews - Another fun mixed bag of shapes & flavors, this one doesn't have the outside sugar coating on it like the other two bags.

My favorite of the three was the Astro chews, I thought it would be the peach hearts but surprisingly the peach hearts I found to be significantly more sour than the astro chews even though they were the sweet option of the two. I also really enjoyed the treasure chews, they kind of reminded me of a slightly harder fruit snack. The bags are big enough and filling enough that I had no problem splitting a bag between my two children and myself, with each of us getting a good amount of gummies.

I will be including a bag of the Treasure Chews in next month's Beauty & The Book giveaway bundle so keep an eye out for that if you'd like to win!

December Gramma In A Box!

I didn't tell my kids that we were going to be getting the December Gramma In A Box, instead I waiting until it arrived and put it on the counter until my kids arrived home from school. They were so excited when they came home and seen the box sitting on the counter! Sadly we weren't able to get to it right away, my son wasn't feeling the best so we waited several days before we did our treat decorating. This month's theme is something I am sure you can guess, Christmas! As with all of the Gramma In A Box this box came with three different treats to decorate and create.

The box comes with everything you need for the three treats, you will just need a bowl and a fork to heat up the melting chocolate. I love that she also includes wax paper to lay the treats on after they are decorated so the chocolate can re-harden and the treats won't get stuck when you go to take them off. The first treat in the box is Hot coco buddies!

For the hot coco buddies you will need the marshmallows, candy canes, melting chocolate and sprinkles of your choice. After you've melted the chocolate you will need to dip the end of a candy cane in, then gently push it into a marshmallow. Allow the chocolate to harden just enough that you can hold the candy cane by the hook end so that you can dip the marshmallow into the chocolate covering the lower half, before it dies you can add the sprinkles of your choice. We found it was easiest to gently roll the marshmallow in the sprinkles to make sure it was even.

Next up are some pretzel peppermint bites! You'll need the remaining melted chocolate, crushed peppermint and the small chocolate decorating balls. Mix the crushed peppermint in with the remaining chocolate, you can add as much or as little as you want. We added about half of the container to make the peppermint not overwhelming. I really enjoyed these and think they would make a great snack for any holiday party!

Last but not least are the sugar cookies which are included in every box! This is always our favorite part because it is a lot of fun expressing yourself with the decorations provided and the cookies are delicious. The box includes three different frosting colors, the frosting works best if you message the frosting for a few minutes before cutting the tip off to use and you can use any left over sprinkles or decorations in the box.

Want to subscribe and decorate cookies and treats with your own children? You can order a single box or you can pre-order several months at a time, if you subscribe in the auto-debit program which is $20 a month for a box your first box will automatically be discounted to $10. Past treat projects can be seen in the gallery on their website. Your order must be placed by the 3rd of the month in order to receive that month's box.

Spooky October treats with Gramma In A Box!

My kids jumped for joy when they spotted the October Gramma In A Box sitting on our counter when they came home from school last week. They wanted to get into it right away but were slightly disappointed when I told them we had to wait a day or two until we were able to sit down and make our October treats. As you can imagine they were bursting with excitement when we sat down to see what was in the box and make our goodies. What is a Gramma In A Box kit? This box was originally created by owner Terry, who has grandchildren who live out of state, this box gives her and her grandchildren a chance to work on decorating cookies together over Skype, over time it has turned into a full time business for other parents and grandparents who want to do the same with their children.

Each month you'll receive supplies to create three different treats, everything you need (aside from a fork and bowl) along with instructions are in the box. The October box includes goodies to make Witch hat cookies, "Mud" cups with gummi worms and body parts, and shaped sugar cookies.

To create the Witch hats you'll need thin Oreos, melting chocolate, sprinkles and Hershey's kisses. The first step is to cover the Oreo in chocolate, the directions say to thinly spread the chocolate just on the top half of the cookie but we decided to coat both sides. After you've covered your cookie in chocolate, add a Hershey's kiss on top and sprinkles for decoration. Let the Witch hats sit on the wax paper for 3-5 minutes to let the chocolate set. We all really enjoyed these, the Oreos being thin made it to where the cookies weren't hard to eat.

I didn't realize it until they were already gone, but the photos I took of the chocolate cups we made came out blurry so I include a photo of all the treats above where you can see the cups. For these cups you'll need cocoa pebbles, the rest of the melting chocolate, gummi worms, and candy eyes/bones. Mix the cocoa pebbles with the rest of the melting chocolate until the cereal is completely coated, and add an even amount to each of the wrappers. Once you have the "dirt" or "mud" how you'd like it, you can add gummi worms and body parts as decoration. My kids enjoyed making and eating these, as you can see each cup is quite unique.

Sugar cookies! This is personally my favorite part because it is a lot of fun decorating the cookies with the kids, and they are so delicious. Some sugar cookies have too much sugar and some are too dry, these are just right and taste fresh. Gramma In A Box always includes three different piping bags with three different frosting colors to use for decorating, plus different sprinkles so you can decorate your cookies however you'd like. Above you might notice that the pumpkin has a green stem, I wanted a green stem but there were no green sprinkles so I cut off the end of one of the gummi worms to use as the stem. It is best to roll the frosting in your palms a bit before cutting them open, this will warm the frosting up a bit allowing it to be spread easier, otherwise it tends to clump up a bit.

You can purchase a singular box to try out or you can purchase a 3,6,or 12 month subscription and automatically at the start of each month your box will be shipped out. In total there are enough goodies in the box to create 15 to 20 finished items (each cookie counts as a finished item). A single box is $20 or if you buy a subscription the price lowers a bit depending on which subscription you purchase. If you are a new subscriber you need to place an order before the 3rd of each month in order to receive that month's box. This subscription service is only available in the US. During the holidays there are holiday themed items in the box which adds to the fun of the box.

Back-To-School Treats with Gramma In A Box!

Last month my kids and I received a Gramma In A Box and they had a blast with putting together the treats in the box, so when we went to check the mail earlier this month and found the September box they were beyond excited. Before we get into our review, what is a Gramma In A Box kit? This box was originally created by owner Terry to give her and her grandchildren who lived in another state a chance to work on decorating cookies together over Skype, over time it has turned into a full time business for other parents and grandparents who want to do the same with their children.

The September theme is "Back-to-School Treats" and it features three sweet treat projects to work on with your kids. Everything you need to create the treats is included in the box, there is no baking needed, just decorating!

First up we made pencils from vanilla wafers! This simple pencil cookie is made using a vanilla wafer cookie, vanilla melting chocolate, red sanding sugar and chocolate chips. After melting the vanilla melting chocolate you simply need to dip the "eraser" end into the chocolate then gently roll the same end in the red sanding sugar before the chocolate hardens to create what looks like an eraser. Next you can dip the other end into the melted chocolate or simply spread a bit on the tip using a butter knife, and add a chocolate chip to look like the pencil tip. The wafers already come in the shape you'll need for the pencil project so you don't need to worry about shaping the tip.

Next up was creating Teachers apples using marshmallows, vanilla melting chocolate, red sanding sugar, half a pretzel rod and candy leaves. The kids had a lot of fun rolling their marshmallows into the melted chocolate then the sugar, we found it was best to sprinkle it on rather than rolling it in the glitter so I'd do it over a wax paper so you can pour the extra back into the little container. Once it is covered in the red sprinkles you add a pretzel rod to the top, then add a candy leaf or two, and bam! You've made a Teachers apple. I personally love how these turned out! And they were pretty delicious.

Last but not least the box included several different sugar cookies to decorate with frosting and fun sprinkles. We received letter and apple shaped cookies, one of the "C's" was broken but the kids didn't seem to mind and split the cookie as is while decorating the rest. The frosting may need a bit of kneading to make sure it is mixed properly before you use it, we found it is best to knead it or roll it in your hands for a little while to warm the frosting up to give it a better consistency to spread on the cookies.

Nerdy Noms Giveaway & Review!

**This was not a paid post. My honest opinions were used, they are solely my own & they may vary from others. The products mentioned below have been provided by Nerdy Noms for the review & giveaway free of charge.**

Almost everyone loves chocolate, it is tasty and puts a smile on your face so what could make it even better? The answer is chocolate in the shapes of some of your favorite fandoms/hobbies. I recently found a Etsy shop called Nerdy Noms that sells a wide variety of chocolates in different shapes and colors and I was enchanted by what her shop had to offer. You can see which chocolates I received below along with my thoughts on them and you can enter to win some chocolate of your own. If that isn't awesome enough as is Nerdy Noms also sells blind dates with a book.

Chocolate Dragon Egg with Baby Dragon: This sweet treat is inspired by the egg Hagrid wins that Norbert hatches from in Harry Potter. This chocolate egg is hollow and can come in a variety of colors, the one I received was black/red and came in a lovely little gift box that kept it safe during shipping. When you crack the egg open you will find cinnamon dots (red hots) and a chocolate baby dragon. The chocolate did tend to absorb a little of the spicy cinnamon flavor from the red hots, it gave the chocolate a nice kick and was quite enjoyable but if you aren't a fan of hot candies I would possibly avoid this one. This product sells for $20.

Hogwarts House Chocolate Frogs: All fans of Harry Potter are fully aware of the sweet treat chocolate frogs and I am sure most have always wanted to try out a chocolate frog. Thankfully these little guys won't try to hop away on you so you won't have to worry about eating it quickly. Each frog has a different color chocolate filling to match one of the four Hogwarts houses, you won't know which one you picked until you bite into it. These would be a great idea for any Harry Potter themed party. There are no added flavors per color the chocolate is simply colored to make the chocolate frogs more fun. The frogs taste like creamy delicious chocolate. You can buy a six pack for $8 you have the option to select a single house, receive an assortment or pick a house with gift wrapping for an extra two dollars.

Firefly Serenity Vessels: The ships were a big hit with the kids, they thought the shape was fun and it is chocolate so they were double excited and couldn't wait to have one once they finished their dinner. Each chocolate has just the right amount to satisfy your craving without over eating sweets. You can buy a six pack for $7.50-$10.50 depending on which flavor you select.

GOT Stark Logo Coin: This is also what looks like a new chocolate in her shop, it is about 3" x 3" and features the Stark logo. This one had slight air bubbles along the logos hair line but it didn't make any difference in the taste and it still looked great. Each coin comes package separately so again this would make a great party favor or holiday gift for any Game of Thrones lover.

Open Book Chocolate: This chocolate is a great size, we are a family of four and we were able to cut four slices about half an inch in width from each size of the book so it lasted for two days worth of desserts. My kids got a kick out of the book and loved how big it was, as with all of the chocolates from Nerdy Noms the chocolate was creamy and tasted great however I don't suggest leaving the chocolate within a few feet of the stove hahaha I forgot and my book melted slightly while I was cooking dinner. Each book sells for $10 each and comes in plain or you can get it decorated with roses.

Chocolate Pixel Hearts: This set of chocolate comes in a number of flavors ranging from classics like light coco to fun flavors like pumpkin spice. I didn't actually measure them but going off of a guess I'd say these hearts are about 1"x1"x1/2" thick, you can eat it in two bites or one if you eat it like a chipmunk. You will get a dozen for $6-$8 depending on the flavor you select.

Harry Potter Book Of Spells: This is a fun take on a Harry Potter themed chocolate product, you will receive a small box labeled "Book Of Spells" which contains one chocolate frog and one chocolate rat for $5. The box was a little bit of a pain in the butt to open without ripping it open otherwise we loved this item and thought it was a great idea.

Nerdy Noms also has seasonal inspired chocolates, The Walking Dead themed chocolates and more all at awesome prices! Everything I received arrived in perfect condition and tasted great. I will be posting a separate post to review their Blind Date with a book.

Almondina Giveaway & Review!

****This was not a paid post and my honest opinion was used. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. The products mentioned below have been provided by Almondina for the review & giveaway free of charge.****

Almondina has a new toasted almond thin baked snack line called Toastees, their thin backed snacks are like thin sweet cookies. At only 69 calories per serving (about seven slices) it is a delicious and light snack for on the go, paired with yogurt or even with cheese. These snacks contain no cholesterol, dairy, preservatives, added fats or salts. They do have almonds and egg whites so if you are allergic to either one I'd avoid eating these.

For my review I received three out of the four Toastees flavors they offer which are Cranberry Almond, Coconut Orange Almond and Sesame Almond. Each bag is 5.25oz and there is actually quite a bit included in each bag, after about a handful you will be full and satisfied. My favorite is the Cranberry Almond, the little pieces of cranberries in each baked thin is delicious with the almond slices. I also enjoyed the Sesame Almond thins, they have a unique and tasty flavor to them and they smell good. I do have to say I didn't like the coconut orange almond thins, they didn't smell appetizing to me and the taste was a bit bland for me which was a little disappointing but loving two out of the three flavors is pretty good. My kids also enjoy eating these at home and on the go.

Each Toastee will have a different amount of almond pieces as you can see above, some have more some have less but they are all pretty flavorful. They are pretty crunchy, my fiance has sensitive teeth so he doesn't like eating his without milk or coffee to sofen them up a little to prevent his teeth from hurting, I on the other hand haven't had any issue with the crunch I am pretty happy with the texture of the thins. I opened my first bag about a week ago and still have a little over a quarter of the bag left and they still taste just like they did when I opened the bag. Overall I am pretty happy with these and would purchase them in the future. Toastees are being carried coast-to-coast by stores including all Sprouts Markets, Bed Bath & Beyond, Publix, Giant Eagle, Lowe’s Foods, Fairway Markets, Kroger Michigan, Amazon, Almondina.com  and others.

PRIZE ALERT:
One lucky winner will receive a prize pack containing six bags of Toastees. Prize Value (including shipping) $40

EsianMall Review!

****This was not a paid post and my honest opinion was used. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. The products mentioned below have been provided by EsianMall for the review free of charge.****

Subscription boxes are always a lot of fun, because it makes getting mail feel like Christmas since you know you are going to get to open something but you don't know what it is. The newest subscription box I received and was able to test out for review is a snack box by a company called EsianMall. EsianMall sells both snack boxes ($14.95/month for a mini, $25 for a regular and $35 for a premium box) and makeup boxes ($24.95/month), they also offer a bi-monthly glamor box which has 6-8 full sized makeup products and clothing/accessories for $59.95. As a bonus on this post you get to see me being silly in my cosplay mask taking a photo with my snack box!

I received one of their Mini boxes, the difference between each box is how many snacks you receive. The mini box comes with five snacks, the medium comes with ten snacks and the premium box comes with eleven snacks and a bonus gifts which could be a funko pop or something else just as neat. Depending on how well you do with sharing I would say the mini box has enough for one person to enjoy, if you are looking for a family box or something for couples I would go with one of the bigger boxes.

Here is what was in the box: A bar of bitter chocolate,A cracker or cream biscuit (I received the cracker), A Meiji Yan Yan in the flavor vanilla, Green tea matcha pocky, and strawberry gummies. Due to it's name the chocolate bar it sounds a little off putting at first but it doesn't actually taste bitter, instead it tastes more like a pure coco bar not packed with as much sugar as what you would normally be used to in a chocolate bar. The only thing I didn't really like was the pocky, I normally love pocky I just don't like the flavor of green tea but I know there are lots of people out there who do.

One thing I wish they did differently is their "This Month's Products" card, instead of having the name and brand of the company it just says the gist of what it is such as  "cracker/cream biscuit" which is a little unfortunate because I love these crackers but I have no idea what they are called and unless I go searching online for what they are called I wouldn't know how to buy more, they also don't include the retail value on the card. Otherwise with those two things changes I do like this subscription box, all had strong and tasty flavors and there was a nice variety of products plus the way everything was packaged was eye catching and well put together.

One of the things I love most about when winter comes and the cold weather sets in is that I get to start drinking hot chocolate again, I usually make a few a week. If you are a fan of hot chocolate then you know it isn't the same without marshmallows in it, with the marshmallows 240Sweet sells you can give your hot chocolate a new face lift so to speak with their unique and fun marshmallow flavors.

I was recently sent some sweets to try out from a 240Sweet, I received a bag of decadent drinking chocolate mix, a bag of sugar cookie marshmallows, and a bag of bourbon brown sugar marshmallows. These marshmallows are large fluffy and packed full of flavor, the sugar cookie marshmallows really do taste like a fluffy version of the classic sugar cookie and they have some crunchy little sugar pearls on them. The decadent drinking chocolate mix is cute lovely and is pretty thick and creamy, the bag will last for several drinks because you only need four tablespoons per cup of hot chocolate. My hot chocolate wasn't hot enough to completely melt the mallows but they did melt pretty well, they are so big I actually cut one in half to put into my drink. The bourbon brown sugar marshmallows we did not try because they are for one of you to win! You can also use the coupon code burningmoon to receive $10 off the Peppermint Hot Chocolate Kit.

July Orange Glad Sweet Box!

****This was not a paid post and my honest opinion was used. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. The products mentioned below have been provided by Orange Glad for the review free of charge.****

Whether you are on a diet or not you should allow yourself a treat once in a while, I've cut back drastically on how much I have been eating and the treat I offer myself comes once a month and it is the Orange Glad sweets box a monthly subscription of baked goods and confections. Boxes start at $13 a month plus shipping and handling, You will receive five fantastic treats in the mail each month from a number of wonderful companies.

I recently received the July box and was delighted to see that they added a new feature to their box the treats now come in adorable little bags tied with twine, prior to this month they were still packaged nicely in the box but I find the new bags and twine to be more appealing to the eye. This months box contained the following treats:

  •  A Hazelnut cheesecake brownie from Chocolate Maven - This brownie was an ooey gooey delight to eat! It had a rich and creamy taste packed full of flavor, it is one of the best brownies I've had in ages. Even with being made and then shipped to my home it was still moist and tasted as if it was just baked that day.

  • A Cranberry muffin top by Seattle's Favorite Gourmet Cookies and Dessert Co. - I didn't personally eat this one my husband and son enjoyed this together, I was told it had a spongy texture that gave it that light fluffiness like pancakes.

  •  A bag with two Freedom star sugar cookies from Gianna's Homemade Baked Goods - They look as if they would be the harder version of sugar cookies but once you take a bite you find that they are soft and melt in your mouth. They were covered in colored sugar which gave it a cute look and added some extra sweetness to the cookie. I would purchase these cookies again.

  •  A Chocolate Babka from Lily's Bakery Shop - Okay I will admit at first I didn't know what a Babka was to me it just looked like a fancy piece of bread. After trying this out with my kids I found that it is similar to a cinnamon roll just in bread form making it easier to eat. I think this would make a good breakfast treat and would go great with coffee.

  • A Ice Dream Sandwich by Orange glad themselves! I only managed to try a bite of this and thought it had a interesting yet satisfying texture to it, it was sweet and decadent. My one and a half year old then promptly devoured the rest so I can say he loved it.

I personally think the price is worth what you will receive based on how many products you get and the product size. If you want to buy more of one specific item they have many of the products available for sale directly through their website, otherwise you can visit the sponsor companies website. If you are looking for new subscription boxes to purchase this may be one you want to look into getting.
