November Beauty & The Book Giveaway!

 

For this month's Beauty & The Book Giveaway I decided to put together a giveaway for my fellow Nerdy ladies out there! I gave a hint last month about this month's giveaway being "Magical" so as you can tell from the photo of this month's bundle above, this month's theme is Harry Potter! I've included two different books, some makeup/beauty goods along with some great Harry Potter merchandise. 

October was a crazy month! It really did go by in a flash. I caught a cold and was sick for about two weeks, which was a bummer, but other than that it was a fantastic month. I decided to go as Batty Koda from Ferngully for Halloween/Uwu Con so I spent a few days working on it. I bought a base adult sized bat onesie then I hand stitched everything on to make it look like the character. We also attended a few fun events. Coming up this month I have some fantastic reviews & giveaways headed your way including some fun gift guides since the holiday season is just around the corner. I also have somewhat of an idea of the theme I want to go with for next month's giveaway bundle. Let's get into the giveaway though! 

For this bundle I included two different books. One is the unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook which features tons of recipes based off of food/drinks in the movies along with just some fun themed items. The second book is a magical film projections book. When you place one of the pages in front of a flashlight in a dark room it will light a scene on the wall, just like shadow puppets.

Handmade leather goods by New Moon Technocraft!

Handmade gifts are always a fantastic option for Birthday and Christmas gifts, I recently came across a Etsy shop called New Moon Technocraft who sells a number of gorgeous handmade gifts. Shop owner Leslie creates leather bookmarks, single pocket wallets, dog hair clips and more. She has a lot of unique designs that include fun fandoms like Harry Potter, Zelda, Superheros and more so there is something for everyone.

I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous bookmarks in her shop, in particular the Ravenclaw bookmark caught my eye. I have been a fan of the Harry Potter books and movies since I was younger, and my nickname is "Luna" so it received double brownie points in my book. Leslie was very kind and sent me a bookmark along with a cord holder to use and review.

The bookmark I received is perfect for what I look for in a bookmark. I generally try to avoid bookmarks that are so small, you almost can't find the page you were on and I don't like bookmarks that are so big they leave an indentation in the book. This bookmark is thin while still being sturdy enough to last, plus it is just the right size for marking your page in a book. I enjoy the texture of this bookmark, it is smooth but has enough of a grip that it won't slip around inside of your book. Each bookmark is customizable so you can add any name you'd like. 

You can purchase a bookmark for $12.60, with flat items of this size there is always a small worry that it might get bent in the mail on the way to your house. Both of these products were packaged so that they were protected during shipping and the arrived in perfect condition. This would make an excellent gift for the bookworm on your holiday shopping list.

Another product that caught my eye was the adorable Sloth cord wrap/holder shown above. I work in a small office by myself, I can hear all of the commotion going on outside of my office but it is usually pretty quite inside of my office. I keep a pair of headphones in my desk drawer so I can listen to music on my phone while I work during the day. Sometimes the headphones get tangled up, or they catch on other stuff I have in the drawer, so I wanted to see if this could be the solution I was looking for. 

In the photo above I wrapped the cords up a little looser than I wanted but it worked for the photo, I think in the future when I use this I will take a little more time to wrap up my headphones properly. I like how easy this is to unsnap and wrap around my headphones to keep them securely in place. It keeps everything in a tight little bundle that is perfect for tucking away into your desk drawer, pocket or even your purse without you having to worry about your headphones becoming damaged. I almost think this is too cute to leave in my drawer at work, I might start bringing my headphones with me in my purse since I no longer need to worry about them getting overly tangled.

I am pretty impressed with the amount of details, Leslie was able to get on the face of the sloth! You can clearly see it's eyes, cheeks and facial markings. I decided to go with the medium brown dyed leather because it looks the most sloth like to me, however if you prefer a different color she offers ten different colors! A cord holder can be purchased for $9.45 plus shipping. Almost everyone loves chocolate, it is tasty and puts a smile on your face so what could make it even better? The answer is chocolate in the shapes of some of your favorite fandoms/hobbies. I recently found a Etsy shop called Nerdy Noms that sells a wide variety of chocolates in different shapes and colors and I was enchanted by what her shop had to offer. You can see which chocolates I received below along with my thoughts on them and you can enter to win some chocolate of your own. If that isn't awesome enough as is Nerdy Noms also sells blind dates with a book.




Chocolate Dragon Egg with Baby Dragon: This sweet treat is inspired by the egg Hagrid wins that Norbert hatches from in Harry Potter. This chocolate egg is hollow and can come in a variety of colors, the one I received was black/red and came in a lovely little gift box that kept it safe during shipping. When you crack the egg open you will find cinnamon dots (red hots) and a chocolate baby dragon. The chocolate did tend to absorb a little of the spicy cinnamon flavor from the red hots, it gave the chocolate a nice kick and was quite enjoyable but if you aren't a fan of hot candies I would possibly avoid this one. This product sells for $20.



Hogwarts House Chocolate Frogs: All fans of Harry Potter are fully aware of the sweet treat chocolate frogs and I am sure most have always wanted to try out a chocolate frog. Thankfully these little guys won't try to hop away on you so you won't have to worry about eating it quickly. Each frog has a different color chocolate filling to match one of the four Hogwarts houses, you won't know which one you picked until you bite into it. These would be a great idea for any Harry Potter themed party. There are no added flavors per color the chocolate is simply colored to make the chocolate frogs more fun. The frogs taste like creamy delicious chocolate. You can buy a six pack for $8 you have the option to select a single house, receive an assortment or pick a house with gift wrapping for an extra two dollars.



Firefly Serenity Vessels: The ships were a big hit with the kids, they thought the shape was fun and it is chocolate so they were double excited and couldn't wait to have one once they finished their dinner. Each chocolate has just the right amount to satisfy your craving without over eating sweets. You can buy a six pack for $7.50-$10.50 depending on which flavor you select.

GOT Stark Logo Coin: This is also what looks like a new chocolate in her shop, it is about 3" x 3" and features the Stark logo. This one had slight air bubbles along the logos hair line but it didn't make any difference in the taste and it still looked great. Each coin comes package separately so again this would make a great party favor or holiday gift for any Game of Thrones lover.



Open Book Chocolate: This chocolate is a great size, we are a family of four and we were able to cut four slices about half an inch in width from each size of the book so it lasted for two days worth of desserts. My kids got a kick out of the book and loved how big it was, as with all of the chocolates from Nerdy Noms the chocolate was creamy and tasted great however I don't suggest leaving the chocolate within a few feet of the stove hahaha I forgot and my book melted slightly while I was cooking dinner. Each book sells for $10 each and comes in plain or you can get it decorated with roses.

Chocolate Pixel Hearts: This set of chocolate comes in a number of flavors ranging from classics like light coco to fun flavors like pumpkin spice. I didn't actually measure them but going off of a guess I'd say these hearts are about 1"x1"x1/2" thick, you can eat it in two bites or one if you eat it like a chipmunk. You will get a dozen for $6-$8 depending on the flavor you select.

Harry Potter Book Of Spells: This is a fun take on a Harry Potter themed chocolate product, you will receive a small box labeled "Book Of Spells" which contains one chocolate frog and one chocolate rat for $5. The box was a little bit of a pain in the butt to open without ripping it open otherwise we loved this item and thought it was a great idea.

Nerdy Noms also has seasonal inspired chocolates, The Walking Dead themed chocolates and more all at awesome prices! Everything I received arrived in perfect condition and tasted great. I will be posting a separate post to review their Blind Date with a book.

When I am thinking about buying a coffee cup there are several different things I like looking for which are Does it have a neat design or a quote that I like, How much does the cup hold and will it be easy to clean? Some cups are just a pain in the butt to get completely clean like those mugs that have little figures stuck on the bottom, or mugs shaped like various characters so I avoid buying them.

I recently came across an Etsy shop called Creations by Erin Marie and her cups fit all three of the wants I look for. She sells 16oz latte mugs that have a wide cup base which makes it easy to clean, it has a quote that relates to one of my favorite books/movies and it relates to a popular song.

The cup I received says "Everyday I'm Mugglin', Now I don't listen to a lot of R&B or rap but I've heard the song Everyday I'm Husslin a few times along with snips of the song here and there and it is pretty catchy so it can easily get stuck in your head. When I saw this mug it immediately gave me a chuckle and made me smile, after getting the quote stuck in my head for an entire day I know I needed this cup. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition, the Vinyl design is straight and I can't visibly see or feel anything wrong with the vinyl she did a great job adhering it to the cup. So far everyone I've shown it to or spoke with about the cup things that it is hilarious and that she did a great job combining the song with Harry Potter. She recommends gently hand washing and drying this cup and to avoid soaking the cup to ensure it has a long life. Looking for a custom cup?  Erin can do that! She offers cups for an assortment of events such as weddings, gradations, fathers day and more.

Moe Moe Anime Shop Giveaway & Review!

As I've grown older I've grown to love bags, I have all different sizes, patterns and bags for just about everything. I enjoy switching my purse out from time to time as well as my makeup bag, but as you know not all bags are made the same. Some store bought makeup bags, purses, etc will fall apart easily vs how well handmade bags can stand up to a little roughness. An Etsy shop called Moe Moe sells a wide selection of coin purses, pencil cases, tote bags and more that are all hand sewn and are all well made. For a review I received a Beauty and the beast mini Tote Bag + a Harry Potter pencil case. The materials used are stronger than fabric, it feels more like a canvas bag than fabric type material. The beast tote has wide and secure handle straps for carrying your belongings, this bag would be perfect for books or using at the grocery store. It holds a lot of weight and does not feel like it will buckle under the pressure of holding heavy objects which is nice, plus you have beasts adorable face staring back at you. Inside of the tote is a light purple fabric with white dots which gives the bag a pinch of Belles elegance to the bag because it reminds me of her. The Harry Potter pencil case is the perfect size to use not only as a pencil case but a makeup bag as well, the inside has a layer of precious blue fabric with white stars. I can't find anything wrong or out of place with either product. Her tote bags range from $14.99-$16.99 and the pencil cases are $7.99-$10.99.

Manda Panda Bags and Mor Giveaway & Review!

One of my favorite things about Etsy is that you can find things that suit your interests no matter what they are because chances are there are a few shop owners out there who like the same thing. In my home we are big nerds when it comes to the Fandoms we like so we enjoy buying things that reflect that so when I came upon a shop called Manda Panda Bags & More you can imagine the excitement that was in my eyes. She sells Star Wars, Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry Potter and more which are all fandoms we enjoy. Although I love several of the fandoms she creates products for I narrowed it down to Harry Potter for this review and giveaway because my daughter is a big Harry Potter Fan. Amanda was very professional, she responded quickly to emails and questions I had about different things and she made sure everything was packed to where it wouldn't receive damage during shipping.





When this towel set arrived I was pretty impressed with the quality of the towels and how soft they were which made me run into a dilemma do I want to use these as strictly a decor item because they look so nice or do I want to actually use them because they feel so nice?

Everything arrived folded up neatly and was free of any plastic or chemical scents. The bath towels are huge! I am 5' 4" so from time to time I feel short already but these towels manage to make me feel shorter than usual, if I hold them out in front of me they reach from the floor all the way up to my chin, this is the biggest towel I own. The photo of it hanging in my kids bathroom may look slightly odd because we have a short distance between the top of the toilet and the bar so I had to fold it to where it wasn't hanging down over the toilet. The towels are sold in a number of colors and there is an assortment of thread colors to choose from, for the review my fiance decided on black towels with gold thread and I agreed I thought that would go with our bathroom colors the best. The  embellishments are perfect, I don't see any threads out of place and they sit into the towel nicely. I think that she selected a wonderful assortment of symbols to represent the books, they are all very recognizable and aren't overly fancy.  You can buy a single bath towel for $10 or you can buy sets, for two bath towels, two hand towels and two wash cloths it is $45 which is a steal of a price. Amanda also sells makeup bags, tote bags, baby bibs and more.

I Sew For Sanity Review & Giveaway!

I Sew For Sanity is a cheerful Etsy shop that creates scarves, tooth fairy pillows, and more. This shop is ran by shop owner Holly who is quite polite, and speedy when it comes to both communication and mailing out customer purchases. One of the things I like most about her shop is the scarf section, she sells adorable infinity scarves in a variety of fun patterns but the one that caught my eye the most was the listing with the Hogwarts House pride scarves. For my review I received a Ravenclaw scarf which Holly said is actually the most popular house out of the four, that was a little surprising to me because I always figured Gryffindor would be the most popular. Ravenclaw being the most popular is perfectly fine with me though because when it comes down to character traits I strongly believe I would be a Ravenclaw.





This is an infinity scarf but it should be noted that they are not created to be worn as two loops, it is made to be worn as a singular loop as shown in the photos. The second "loop" is there to hide the embroidery. The fabric material this is made from is slightly stretchy which is nice for when you want to position it in just the right way you can fold it or let it out a little like I did in the photo above so you could see the house crest. The scarves come in two different lengths regular which is 35" and long which is 40" for my review I selected the regular length. This scarf is comfortable to wear, it doesn't sit too tightly around your neck but it also helps to keep you warm. It is light enough that you can wear it on a day where it isn't necessarily the coldest day and not overheat from wearing it, it makes me wish it didn't shoot up to 85+ degrees where I am so I could wear it more. The scarf is made from a lightweight cotton jersey knit material which is soft, breathable, non-itchy and easy to wash. The embroidery is perfect there isn't a stitch out of place and the crest lays flat against the scarf so it flows naturally with the material, upon arrival I also noticed there was no smell to the fabric which is nice because the way some clothing type items get bagged in plastic gives them a chemical smell and this scarf did not have that. I am quite happy with this scarf and I look forward to wearing it often. Each house scarf sells for $15 for a regular size and $17 for long, which is well worth the price.



I also adore the tooth fairy pillows Holly sells they are perfect for storing those teeth that fall out so the tooth fairy can easily keep track of the teeth she collects.

Grim Sweetness Giveaway & Review!

Harry Potter played a big role in my childhood, The first time I was introduced to the book series was when my third grade teacher started reading the first book to us as a class. After that I became hooked and waited for each book to hit shelves so I could dive deeper into the realm of Harry Potter and the magic that awaited. Now twenty years after that book was released I still love the series as both a book and movie series, my children love it as much as I do now as well so it is still a big influence on my home. I love collecting trinkets, figures, and other assorted objects inspired by my favorite books, movies, TV shows and video games so when I found Grim Sweetness on Etsy and saw the amazing Harry Potter inspired items she makes and sells I immediately fell in love with her shop and I know my fellow Harry Potter fans will as well.





Grim Sweetness sells an assortment of magical potion props some of which are color changing. For review I received a color changing Polyjuice Potion and Severus Snape's Veritaserum which is also a color changing potion. Each potion is handmade and a lot of small details go into each bottle bringing it life and making you feel as if you really did buy it in Diagon Alley. The Polyjuice stands at 4 1/2" tall and the Vertiaserum is 7 1/2" tall, both are in glass bottles and have a bit of weight to them. The Polyjuice has been sitting still for a bit it appears teal with copper flecks, but once shaken it changes to a deep teal with red-copper metallic swirls that spin around inside of the bottle. After you have given it a good shake the color doesn't disappear right away instead it swirls for a bit then once it stops it looks like a cloud floating around inside of the bottle. I found that the Polyjuice bottle made it a bit more difficult to give it a good shake/swirl to get the color moving around the bottle but the Vertiaserum bottle was perfect and is my favorite out of the two. The Vertiaserum is clear when it has been standing still, and when shaken it turns to a  swirling iridescent white cloud which is quite mesmerizing.



Both bottles come with a handmade label, a dangle charm, and it is sealed with jute twine and wax seals. Other potions she sells glow in the dark and others are potions for your collection, they range in price from $11-$18 which I fully feel is a great price. The price isn't low enough that the seller is out when it comes to supply costs and it also isn't high enough that you are shelling out an arm and a leg to have something that reminds you of your favorite fandom. Keep in mind these potions are for display purposes only, I would not suggest ingesting this. Shipping was quick and everything was wrapped up to keep in protected during shipping so everything arrived in one piece. The next product I would want to collect from her shop is the Floo powder it looks so authentic and almost makes you think you could really use it.
