Skulk Hollow - Board Game Review!

Board games are always a great way to spend one on one time together bonding, competing, talking & laughing while having a great time. I was recently gifted a copy of the board game Skulk Hollow from Pencil First Games, they were also nice enough to include the Ancient Relics mini-expansion kit that offers additional cards for your game. If you've been a fan of my blog for a while this might seem like a familiar company as I did a review of their game Heroes Welcome a while back which is still a favorite of ours that we play quite often.

Skulk Hollow is a two player game which is fantastic for the nights when just two of us want to play a game or if we want to do a tournament style run with the game. Our kids stayed the night at their grandparents house the Friday night after we received this game, so it gave my husband and I a chance to learn the rules & play a game by ourselves. The rules are very straight forward, easy to understand & easy to execute once in play. We didn't spend that long reading the rules before we were able to play, it is always nice when games offer you a engaging & rewarding game without overly complex or complicated rules. The recommended age is 12+ however our nine-year-old has no issue playing this game.

How to play? The set-up is simple, each player will play as a different race of creatures - you will either be a Guardian or a member of the Foxen clan. I wouldn't really say either is the "evil" character as they each have their own reason for why they are fighting the other. The Guardians are massive creatures that are almost like gods who created the lands, once they created those lands they went into slumber. The Foxen are a clan that came to be & live in those lands created by the guardians. The Guardians are now awake once more, they are so massive that as they walk they literally destroy whole cities under their feet. So the foxen are racing to stop the guardians while the guardians are set on walking their paths to wherever they are headed.

Each Guardian has special abilities & items that need to be set up on the board specifically for them, and each Foxen have their own special abilities as well. Once you reach the goal for which ever species you decide to play as then you will win the game. I really like this game, it has a great intro story, the game pieces are fantastic & the game is fun to play.  The Guardians each have their own card box which fits not only the playing cards you will need, but the wooden tokens that represent them as well. All of the boxes fit so nicely into the game box & the bottom of the plastic dividers show you where each box goes. I have to say though that so far, I kind of suck at playing this hahaha my husband kicked my butt both of the times we played together. I just need a little practice & to pick my cards better next time then I think I will have a better chance at winning a round of the game. When my son played a round against my husband, he did a lot better than I did. This will definitely be one of our new favorites go to games when we want to play a board game.

Does this look like a game you would be interested in playing? Who do you think you'd want to play as; one of the giant guardians or one of the cute little Foxen?

Send the gift of Cheese Brothers this holiday season + A Giveaway!

During the holidays it is always nice to have out a few things to snack on through out the day as family & friends spend the day talking, playing games, opening gifts & being together. This year make your snack tray extra special by picking up some cheese & other treats from Cheese Brothers. I can be a little picky when it comes to the cheese I like, but with the Cheese Brothers I haven't tried a cheese from them that I haven't liked. When we make a charcuterie tray with their cheese it is always a huge hit & nothing is left on the tray when everyone has had their fill.

You can buy one of their gift packs for yourself or for a loved one this holiday season, they have several gift packs to choose from or you can buy the cheese individually to create your own gift basket. We were sent their "The Best Gifts are Cheesey" holiday gift pack for a review. This gift set comes with four different cheeses which are the Smoked Gouda, Dill Havarti, 3 Amigos (Jalapeno, Habanero + Chipotle Gouda) & Fratello (Parmesan + Asiago mix) along with a 5.5oz salami & a jar of cherry lavender jam. You can purchase this gift set for $59.95. I also received a block of Bantam which is a honey siracha gouda & a green onion cheddar to try out.

What's a better way to try out some new cheeses than making a snack tray? We've tried out three of these cheeses in the past & they were favorites of ours so we were happy to get them again (the three on the left in the photo above) and three of them were brand new that we couldn't wait to try.

Paired with your favorite crackers you are sure to fall in love with this selection of cheese. All of them has light scents so nothing is too over whelming & they pack a lot of flavor into every bite. The cheery lavender jam that comes with this goes surprisingly well with the cheese & even the meat which isn't a combination I thought I would enjoy so much. The cheese is good by itself or you can shred it & cut it up to add to your favorite dishes, the Fratello is really good in pasta & on top of garlic bread. The gift pack will last you quite some time especially depending on how you use it. We were able to put together a whole snack tray by using just a quarter of each block, which is enough for four to six people to enjoy, you could add a few extra people in there if there are other appetizers or snacks out as well. So we have plenty left over for incorporating into our favorite dishes & enjoying it with more crackers.

The spicy cheeses we tried - the 3 Amigos & the Bantam were really good. The added spicy peppers gives the cheese a nice kick, I'd love to shred some of it up & try it in a homemade mac & cheese with some fresh jalapenos mixed in. They all smell good too, sometimes with cheese it can tend to smell a little funky however that isn't the case with this cheese - it looks good, smells good and tastes fantastic.

Along with the cheese flavors mentioned in this review they have a ton of other flavors & variety of cheeses they also sell some products from other small business owners like crackers, jams, and meats that can be purchased along side your cheese order. The gift packs would make a fantastic gift for the holidays, or really as an anytime gift. You'll be sad when the cheese is gone & will want to place another order! I wish I could find this at one of my local stores, it is by far our favorite cheese brand.

What is your favorite type of cheese?

Tiny Epic Dungeons!

Who is ready to go on an epic adventure that is compact enough to fit snuggly inside of a pocket or purse? Gamelyn Games has a series of board games in their "Tiny Epic" collection that are complex, have quite a few game pieces & are exciting to play yet still manage to fit inside of small 5 x 7 (or smaller) game box. If you've been here before you will see that I recently did a review for Tiny Epic Pirates and also wrote about Tiny Epic Galaxies Blast Off, now I am going to tell you about Tiny Epic Dungeons.

This game 100% has a dungeons and dragons action adventure feel to it where you'll participate in dungeon exploring, fighting monsters, collecting loot and having a few laughs or even a cry along the way.  As mentioned, the game boxes aren't that big, they stand at maybe two inches tall, so I was surprised that cards, dice, mini monster figures, game pieces & actual hero figures were all included in this one small box. The hero pieces are slightly bigger than a dice, yet they are still extremely detailed, you can see their weapons, facial expressions, etc. If you are someone who enjoys painting mini figures, you can paint these to match their player card.

When it comes to the complexity of the game, Tiny Epic Dungeons & its expansion pack Tiny Epic Dungeon Stories has a lot more to learn & do than the other two games we received from Gamelyn. There is quite a bit to read & understand when it comes to moving around and completing this game, there are twenty pages in the rule book. I would either read through the whole book before playing, or scan the QR code on the front of the Adventurers' Manual to watch a video, see rule clarifications and more to help you understand how this game is played. Once you have an understanding of the rules, the games will progress easier & faster.

They have the game set up to where you will explore a unknown dungeon while fighting monsters, disarming any traps you may come across and collecting loot as you work towards your goal of defeating the game. Be careful which hallway you take, it could lead to a dead end! Before each game you will shuffle the dungeon deck, this makes it to where each game will be unique since you will never know which card will be next or which way a hero will choose to roam. It is always a huge bonus when games are set up like this because you get a new game each time which means you'll get more out of this board game over the course of time you own it.

I like the assortment of dungeon monsters they have to battle & the different types of loot you are able to collect. Setting everything up goes quickly & is pretty easy, each game will take 45-60 minutes to complete and can be completed by 1-4 players. Family game wise I would stick to the recommended age of 14+ simply because of how much there is to do & remember along with trying to figure out the rules it may be a little difficult for young kids. However, the Tiny Epic Galaxies Blast off & Tiny Epic Pirates can be played by younger board game fans if you want to check out the reviews for those I linked at the start of this review.

I also enjoy that we get a full-sized game out of each small box & it that they can easily be carried with us on trips. They also take up very little space on our game shelf allowing us to store more. The expansion pack for this game shown above comes with additional monsters, levels, heroes, etc so you can get more out of the base pack. Along with the games shown above they have a ton of other Tiny Epic games that sound fun to play such as tiny dinosaurs and tiny zombies. These games would make great holiday gifts for the board gamer in your life! Head over to their website to check out what they have to offer.

World of Illumination Candy Rush Review!

One of the things I remember most about the holidays growing up was going with my grandma to see Christmas lights that everyone put up. Now that I am older & have my own kids, we enjoy taking them out during the holidays to see lights too. The only difference? It doesn't seem like nearly as many people put up decorations like they used to, so we normally look for neighborhoods that decorate together, & fun events like the World of Illumination offer you a chance to see hundreds of lights while listening to Christmas music.

We are lucky enough to actually have three different locations here in Arizona that each offer their own theme, however today I am only sharing the "Candy Rush" location in Tempe with you. It is located at the Tempe Diablo Stadium 2200 W Alameda Dr. Tempe,AZ 85282. They officially opened last night for the season & will be open until January 1st,2023.

You will only need one ticket per carload, it is $39.99 for a ticket. You can get 20% off if you visit Mon-Thurs, tickets are purchased online only and can be purchased on their website by clicking here. There is no limit to the number of people that can be in the car, for example if you have a large van that can hold eight or nine people there is no extra cost vs a car that only has five people. However there is a size limit on the vehicles that can go in due to the size of the course, there are no limos, rvs or buses allowed.

We were able to visit last night for opening night & had a fantastic time with the kids. We enjoyed the songs they had playing on the station they allow you to tune into & enjoyed the synced light show that went along with it. There were a lot of really neat light tunnels to drive through, adorable characters to see & more. Since they ask you to stick to a speed limit of 2-5 miles per hour it was a slow & enjoyable ride, so we let the kids pop out of the windows to look at the lights which they were thrilled about.

The drive was peaceful & exciting at the same time, we really enjoyed how they had everything set up. It was easy to guide yourself through the course & we were lucky enough to arrive at a time with only a handful of other vehicles so we were able to get some good clips, CLICK HERE to watch the instagram reel I put together with clips from the show.

Is this something you think you would enjoy visiting? What is your favorite Christmas song?

Paint your own ceramic pottery kit - Review!

Made by me! is one of the brands that Horizon Group USA creates & sells that offer hands on craft kits for kids that suit a wide range of ages. One of the kits we were recently sent to review is the Paint Your Own Ceramic Pottery which can be purchased on amazon for $16.97 and some stores such as Walmart & Target sell their products as well. This kit is recommended for ages 6-9, slightly older kids may enjoy it as well, even adults can use this kit to paint the ceramics. Painting is a low stress craft activity that can be quite peaceful, then after you are done panting you can either keep the items or gift them.

This painting kit comes with four different items to paint & decorate how you'd like. There is a small bowl, a vase, a flower pot & a dome pot. Sadly, our kit came with a broken vase that wasn't fixable so only three of the products will be shown on this post. It also comes with twelve bright acrylic paints plus a paint brush.

All of the ceramics are light weight & take the paint quite easily. The kids liked that they didn't need to add several layers of each paint color to get the shade they were wanting to achieve. The kids had fun using different themes to paint the ceramics, the bowl my daughter did a underwater scene on & my son did the other two. The flower pot he did with a sunset theme & it has some glitter as well to give it a shimmer like a real sunset, and the dome he did a turtle shell however you can't quite tell in these photos.

Which of the ceramics would you want to paint? Do you have a favorite craft or art type you enjoy?

STMT DIY Custom Candle Making Kit Review

When it comes to craft & activity kits Horizon Group USA has become a household name for us, they have a number of brands which include Made by Me!, Simple Trendy Modern Touch, The Young Scientist Club & more that each have their own assortment of fantastic products. The best part of all of their kits is that they are all affordable & fun. As part of their influencer program I get a box once a quarter with some fun kits to try out & review. You can see some of the past products I've featured by clicking on this link. We recently received the STMT DIY custom candle making kit which can be purchased for $16.99 on amazon & can also be found at a number of stores such as Walmart that sell their brands.

This candle making kit comes with everything you need to make two candles. You will receive three scents, two color dyes, stir sticks, scent recipe cards, two wicks, a pen and some decorating products to adorn your candle tin with. The stickers you don't use can be saved & used for other projects, you may also have some left over wax, scent liquids & dyes so as long as you pick up an extra wick or two you'll be able to make an additional candle.

Older children will be able to do this kit on their own with minimal supervision, however younger children will need help melting & pouring the hot wax into the tins. You will need a microwave safe bowl to melt the wax. You can make one candle at a time & mix the scents and color in the bowl before pouring into the tins or you can mix it around after you pour the wax into the tins.

My kids really enjoyed using this kit, and were both quite happy with how their candles look & smell after it finished hardening. We enjoy this kit because after we make them we can either keep them for use around the house or we can add them to gift bags for the holidays/birthdays, who doesn't love a useful handmade gift?

What is your favorite scent when it comes to purchasing or receiving candles?

Phoenix Zoo ZooLights & Dinosaurs in the Desert.

Two of the most popular events hosted by the Phoenix Zoo are back for the holiday season! Both events are fun to do at least once if you've never done them before, both give you a chance to look at the nice displays the zoo has set up while getting some exercise walking around. I have a little bit of information on both events below;

ZooLights
Runs from November November 23rd- January 15th
Zoo Member Preview nights are the 21st & 22nd
Daily from 5:30PM-10PM
$35 Per person for general admission or $30 for zoo members.

The phoenix Zoolights aren't open to the public just yet, but tickets have started to go on sale for when they do open. I was able to visit the Zoolights last night during a private event so I have some photos to share with all of you of some of the displays they have to offer this year, & will have a short reel on my instagram page soon for anyone who can't make it in person.

Zoolights are a separate event & is not included with zoo admission nor does it run during regular zoo hours so this ticket will be bought separate from any visit to the zoo. They have everything set up so you can easily guide yourself through the zoo to see the lights, and also visit the Dinosaurs in the desert. Any areas you aren't allowed to visit during this time such as some of the exhibits are roped off with lights. We enjoyed our visit last night, the weather was perfect, the walk was nice & easily accessible for anyone pushing a stroller or using a wheelchair/electric scooter. We think they've definitely stepped up some of their displays since the last time we were here a few years ago, we loved the life sized light up animals.

Dinosaurs in the Desert
Runs from now until April 30th,2023
Daily during regular zoo hours + zoolights hours
FREE with general admission into the zoo/zoolights

This event takes place along the desert trail portion of the zoo, it is a self guided path that has a number of giant life sized dinosaur animatronics set up for viewing. Quite a few of the figures are just beyond the pathway markers so you are able to see them up close & it makes for some great photo opportunities. They also have speakers set up to play the sounds of the dinosaurs as well which makes the experience even better.

If you visit during the normal zoo hours you will also get to see the various animals houses along this trail as well. Sadly during zoolights most of the animals are sleeping & it is dark so you can't really see them anyway, but the dinosaurs are well lit so they can still easily be seen, plus it is a different experience getting to see them in the dark. The trail is almost entirely dirt, however it is easy to push strollers or bring wheelchairs/electric scooters through the area and we didn't have any issues with it being dusty.

There is also a fossil dig area the kids can explore, dino themed photo opportunities set up for you & a gift shop at the end where you can find an assortment of dinosaur themed goodies. I though the paleontologist doll they had was pretty cute & a great way to get kids interested in the field.

Which event would you want to visit or would you want to do both?

As a final note I do want to remind my local Arizona residents that purchasing & using a POGO Pass will get you into the Phoenix Zoo once for free. This saves you $37.95 on regular admission price, a Pogo Pass for a discounted cost $49.99 using code 6c8d10a3. You might be thinking "But, Luna that is more expensive than the regular zoo admission", while this is true not only do you get into the Phoenix Zoo for free using your pass it also includes a number of free visits to several other valley attractions such as Pangea Land of the Dinosaurs, Bowling, Mini Golf, & more saving you over $200 on fun! You can learn more information about the pogo pass by visiting my review here

*This is not a sponsored post. We really enjoy visiting our local zoo & decided to do Zoolights again this year, we went with a family member to a private event.*

My Father's Work - Board game Review!

We recently received a copy of the new game My Father's Work by Renegade Game Studios. This game is hands down the biggest game we own, when the package arrived containing My Father's Work it felt like there was more than one board game within it, I was surprised when I opened it to find this beast of a game. The game is heavy & packed full of all kinds of goodies to go along with your game, everything has its own place and sits just right in the box. It is very annoying when you buy a game & go to stick everything back in the box just to find it won't go back just right so the box bulges a little, that isn't the case with this game & if you forget how to put everything away they have a little map that shows you where to place everything. Looking at all of the game pieces we were pretty excited to get started playing this, we love games that have awesome components that are not only fun to play with but look at as well. This game can be purchased on the Renegade Game Studios website for $125.

My Father's Work is a Victorian mad scientist game where you'll create potions & experiments, it is for ages 14+ and designed for two to four players. The game is played over the course of "Three generations", where players will collect ingredients they need, do research and upgrade their estates. The downside? At the end of each generation players will lose all but two of their experiments and all resources/money. It is a bit of a win some lose some situation, you will lose out on those resources however if you have creeped out the town or have an angry mob coming after you then that is reset as well & you start off fresh. There are three scenarios in this box, each one has their own game pieces that will be used only during that scenario and there is an interactive app that goes with the game as well to be used during game play.

While the game does have a lot of awesome components the rule book is quite extensive and can take a little bit of time to get through. As with most games, playing a slow first game so everyone can get used to the rules is the perfect way to help everyone understand how the game works. Each of the generations consist of three rounds "Early Years", "Middle Years" & "End Years" where each round you will complete a number of tasks to help you achieve your goals of completing experiments which then add points to your game total. The player mats they provide (seen below) are well organized with everything set up to help you know exactly where you are in the game and what you've collected along the way. The towns the stories take place in will also change with the scenario book so each game is unique.

All of the mini figures for each player are the same set of characters, and they make it easier to tell which figure belongs to each player due to the different colored bases you'll attach to your set. If you couldn't tell by my excitement & several mentions of it already, my favorite part of this game set is hands down the game pieces. Everything is extremely well made, the coins & metal gears are actual metal with a little bit of weight to them, the potion bottles are glass with cork stoppers and the other materials are appealing to the eyes as well.

Normally I would include more information on how the game is played, however due to the amount of tasks and information there is to this game I don't want you to feel overwhelmed by reading my babble. This is a great game for those who want an interactive game that is entertaining to play, takes up some time and has a well put together theme. If you need to pause your game the app will allow you to pause as needed, the game book recommends waiting until you start a new round before pausing to make it easier to pick back up when you are ready.

Renegade game studio has a wide range of games including a large selection of games that cost $25 or less, so if you are looking for a new board game to play or have a board game lover on your holiday shopping list, I highly suggest checking out what they have to offer.

What is your favorite feature of this game?

Check out what is new at Birdcall!

Back in June I shared a review of a restaurant that is new to Arizona called Birdcall. If you want to read the review, you can do so by clicking here. Birdcall instantly became one of our favorite spots with their mouthwatering chicken sandwiches. I am back with a review to share some of the new things going on at the restaurant this month. But first, let me tell you a little bit about this location. They are located at 7204 East Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 & are working on opening two new Arizona restaurants within the next year. Birdcall has an employee greet you when you first come in & they will offer assistance if you need it, however ordering your food is all done on one of their instore tablets making ordering a breeze. The tablets make it easy to completely customize your meal to how you like it, you can add ingredients, remove ingredients and more which is perfect for picky eaters.

Along with their chicken sandwiches & sides they also serve milkshakes and have a bar where you can buy a beer or mixed drink. The newest milkshake only available until the end of the month is the Pumpkin Spice milkshake. I enjoy quite a few pumpkin space flavored items so of course I had to try this.

Also new this month is the Birdcall Passport. This passport is a fun game that allows you to win prizes for completing different tasks at the restaurant, some of the tasks will require you to purchase certain food items while others ask you to follow their social media channels, eat out on the patio and more. Once you've completed a certain amount of stamps you will win different prizes, they have gift cards in various amounts & there is an opportunity to win a two-night VIP experience for the opening of one of their newest stores. The passports are free, you can find them upfront near the ordering kiosks, you will have them stamped before you leave. This promotion runs from now until November 30th which is when all passports will need to be turned in by.

The last time we visited we didn't get milkshakes so the kids were excited to try them out this time, my kids aren't really pumpkin spice fans so my kids stuck with normal chocolate milkshakes & my husband opted for a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough milkshake. I enjoyed the pumpkin spice milkshake, it tasted like someone took a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream & put it in a blender. The milkshakes come in a "one size fits all" so there is no option if you'd like a small, medium or large which would be nice to have if you don't want a lot of milkshake. The pumpkin spice milkshake is $6.50, I would say it is a large. It is how milkshakes should be, Thick but not to the point where it is a pain to suck up through the straw, it was also topped with whipped cream. Between my sandwich, sharing some sides and the shake I was pretty full and satisfied with my meal.

Foodwise I wanted to try out a different sandwich this time, there are a few sandwiches I wanted to try which make it a little tough to decide which to pick. I went with the Rancher that has a onion and bacon jam along with white cheddar cheese & bird-b-q sauce. I also used their customizer to add a tomato to my sandwich and mmm mmm mmm did I enjoy this chicken sandwich, the red onion bacon jam was fantastic. I can be a bit picky with my chicken, I have been very satisfied with my meal when we've gone here and the tater tots they have are amazing, I could visit and get just the tater tots! I also like the fries, last time the fries weren't as good as this time but were still good. This time around the fries were a little more crispy which made them even better. My kids love being able to customize their sandwiches with no issues, my daughter doesn't like a lot of ingredients, so this allows her to remove anything she doesn't like.

Affordability wise I would give them a $$, for our family of four we purchased four chicken sandwiches, two orders of tater tots, a order of fries, 2 normal adult milkshakes & 2 kids milkshakes which came out to just under $70. One thing I would love to see on the kids menu is a kids meal that has a mini chicken sandwich instead of just nuggets, I know my kids would love that and I would probably get a kids meal every once in a while too. Random note to leave the review off on, my daughter loves the lotion they have available in their bathrooms, it smells good & leaves your hands soft so when we are done eating she always has to make sure to wash her hands and use the lotion.

If you are a milkshake fan, leave a comment letting me know what your favorite flavor of milkshake is. Would you try out this restaurant?

Creepy Crate October/November Review!

All of the horror/spooky/Halloween fans out there might be a little sad that Halloween is over, but that doesn't mean you can't have some surprise scares through out the year. Creepy Crate is a Horror & True Crime themed subscription box that ships out bi-monthly, in each crate you'll receive a horror or true crime themed book along with several other goodies ranging from clothing to household goods. You can purchase a single box for $39.99 or subscribe for 3 to 6 boxes at a time to receive a bit of a discount on the boxes.

Let's dig into what is included in the October/November Creepy Crate. The book included in this crate is "Book of Knives" by Lise Haines which is a chilling summer camp tale or "The Angel Maker" by Alex North which is a tale of a serial killer. The digital book included is "Angel of Mercy" by Andrew Neiderman a story about a killer nurse and her twin sister.

The other items included are a set of Serial Killer gift tags to adorn your presents this holiday season, each one features a different serial killer. Three paper masks which pay homage to the 1980 movie Terror Train plus three stretchy strings to add to the masks so you can wear them. Also included is a coffee mug that says "Worlds Greatest Stepfather" which is from The Stepfather. A light bulb shaped notepad featuring Parasite, a Orphan bumper sticker - which is a movie I haven't seen yet, but have heard it is amazing. As an added bonus I received a CastleRock keychain which is a double for me as I received
it in my last Creepy Crate box, so they must of had extras and added them to this crate. I also love getting items that are not only themed but useful such as the keychain and notepad (I write lots of notes). This crate is a great way to discover products from your favorite movies & true crimes and also a great way to discover new films, stories and books you've never heard of.

🎃 If you are a fan of horror films - Which film would you like to receive a fun collectable item from?

Not everyone is a fan of horror films, or creepy things. So if you aren't a fan, let me know what theme you'd love to get a Subscription box of.
