How I am celebrating National Reading Month!

March is National Reading Month! Growing up I was always a bookworm, I have fond memories of visiting the book store with my Great Grandmother who would let me select a new book each time we went, it always made me so excited to find a new adventure. I could often be found curled up on the sofa or on my bed with my nose stuffed into a book, and many of my favorites I've read a few times over. While I don't have as much time to read as I used to I still try to squeeze in reading as often as I can and I encourage my children to read often and plenty.

Before my children could begin reading on their own, I started purchasing books to read out loud to them and progressed the reading levels as they began to read on their own. My oldest loves to read as much as I do and my youngest likes to read books with me but now that he is able to mostly read on his own (he is in Kindergarten) I've found him reading books by himself more and more. In our home we each have a book shelf in our room along with a book shelf in the play room that are all stuffed with books, though we still need to read many of them we still try to add new books as often as possible. So to celebrate National Reading Month we will be heading out to find a new book or two for the kids to read. For myself, I am setting a goal for myself to finish the book I am currently reading along with the next to books in the series PLUS I want to help one of you celebrate reading by hosting a giveaway.

I recently found a book journal that challenges you and your family to read 100 books aloud together and record each book along the way. Each page has space for you to write the books title, the date you read it on and memories you have about the book. You can write about how the book made you feel, which characters were your favorite, the possibilities are endless. The main purpose of this is to give you a fun challenge to complete together and writing everything down helps you remember details or books you may forget along the way. I know that sometimes when I read a series by the time the next book comes out I may forget how the last one ended so having something like this would be helpful.

I would like to give a copy of this book away to one of my readers to complete with their children. While this book will be fun for the winner, I can't possibly give this book away without a new book to go with it could I? Of course not! I will be sending SIX children's books along with this to start the winning family off with some brand new books to read together. The six titles are "Great Polar Bear", "Walk With Me", "The Whole Wide World & Me", "The Day War Came", "Storm" and "The Stuff Of Stars" all of which are great for beginner & level 1-2 readers.

PRIZE ALERT:
One lucky reader is going to win a copy of "Our Read-Aloud Family Journal" and a box of children's books.
